Add grip to your pick

There is nothing more annoying to a guitar player than those moments where you are playing some really awesome shred run when suddenly you loose the grip of your pick. It happens again and again and you don't know why.

You experiment with different ways of holding the pick, different types of picks and thumb clipping picks, but it still doesn't work, or is just damn awkward to play with.

But wait one moment before you go and have your favourite pick surgically attached to your thumb, because I have the answer to your problems.

Every one has there favourite type of pick, that one pick they just cant play as well with out. My pick of choice being the Jim Dunlop Tortex Jazz III. But some times these picks just don't have the right amount of rip you need, and the picks that do have special grips just don't feel as good. Here is a very quick and easy DIY trick that you can use to turn your pick into an easy grip pick.

What you have to do is take your pick and place it down on a table. Take a Stanley knife from your tool box and very carefully score lines across the wider part of your pick in a criss cross pattern, making sure the lines are not to deep. Once your done, turn your pick over and repeat on the other side.

You can just make out the scratches iv made in the pick on the left (sorry for the blurry photo).

Then go up to your guitar, play some things and test this out. If the grip is still not enough just add a few more lines and test again.

You can buy many picks ready made with grip lines scored in, but I have found those picks are just not as good to me as the Jazz III's I use.

Another method you could try is drilling a hole through the middle of your pick between where you place your finger and thumb, but I do not advise this as it can be very fiddly and you could hurt your hand quite badly if you slip.

It really will make a lot of difference and make your guitar playing a lot easier. So give it ago and tell me if it has helped.
